Education & Training:
Andrea completed her Bachelors of Science in Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa in 2006.
During her undergraduate work, she gained an interest in rehabilitation. She began her master’s work under the supervision of Dr. Chau in the fall of 2008.
Research Title
Detecting Intention in Upper Extremity Movement in Children with Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy
Research Abstract:
For her M.Sc thesis, Andrea is exploring a potentially new access pathway to assist individuals with severe motor disabilities communicate. Specifically, she is investigating involuntary movement in children to see if there are detectable patterns in the movement when a child is attempting to communicate. If some aspect of communicative intent is encoded in movement, then movement may serve as a either a novel or complimentary, non-invasive access pathway.
Other Interests:
Some of Andrea’s interests include rowing, soccer and snowboarding. She also loves travelling, camping and being outdoors.
