Eric was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis at 18 years of age as an adverse reaction to a measles vaccine. As a result, he is paralyzed at the shoulder down and has some respiratory weakness. Over the years, his condition has had little improvement.
However, this does not hinder Eric's ability to advance in school and perform the research and development that is carried out at the PRISM Lab. Eric is currently a student at the University of Toronto and in his third year of computer engineering. Eric has also helped with work at the PRISM lab during the summer of 2005 and has from September 2006 to the present, worked under Dr. Chau as an undergraduate student. In that time, Eric has helped advance the programming of the Virtual Music Instrument, the development of the Aspirometer and analyzed data from several projects associated with the Access Innovations research.
