Research Title
Facial Thermography as an Access Pathway
Research Abstract
The potential benefits of an access pathway based on thermographic imaging of particular facial regions known to be sensitive to emotional thermoregulation are significant, particularly for individuals with locked-in syndrome or severely limited motor control. An access pathway based on thermal imaging would be non-invasive, require minimal training on the part of the user, and function independently of ambient lighting. This project will investigate the effects of the natural circadian rhythm on baseline facial temperature (to establish the feasibility of distinguishing between baseline and affective emotional states throughout the day), the viability of measuring the human startle response using facial thermography, and other areas pertaining to the use of facial thermography as an access pathway.
Other Interests
Luke enjoys performing improvisational comedy with The Front Row Commandos, working on programming projects that never quite reach fruition, creating somewhat humorous videos, and occasionally venturing outdoors
